On Saturday 3rd March Troy was surprised by DDRSA and SQ at the DDRSA championships!
Troy was awarded the Swimming Queensland Award for excellence to the sport of swimming.
Troy has been involved with swimming for over 30 years from being a competitive swimmer and then moving into the coaching field under greats such as Ian Findlay and Lindsay Clyde at Glennie. While at Glennie he was involved in swimming on the DDRSA being Vice president and also being awarded Life membership at the Glennie Swim Club.
Troy then took on a role Leasing the Oakey Pool for Toowoomba Regional Council for 4 years and had many Oakey Barracuda's swim at State level.
Troy was also awarded Life membership to DDRSA in 2007. An honour in itself being the youngest ever to receive this at DDRSA and Glennie.
In 2009 Troy moved his Learn to swim school from Harristown High school pool to Concordia Aquatic Centre and Concordia Olympic was born. Troy has coached swimmers to National and International level from Concordia Aquatic Centre.
In 2017 the club had a name change to move with the times to Turbo Jets and the kids are now Flying.
Troy has been awarded this prestigious award not only for what he has done as a coach, but also as a volunteer with DDRSA and SQ.
I am astounded to think over the years the number of swimmers Troy has encouraged along the black line. Where will he go next?
